MARGINALIZED: Govt asked to address systemic inequality exposing Eastern Uganda to recurring tragedies

The government must act decisively to protect communities in Eastern Uganda and address the systemic inequality that leaves them exposed to recurring tragedies, Moses Bigirwa, the president of Eastern Revolutionary Platform has called out.

Bigirwa’s call is contained in a condolence statement following the landslides in Bugisu sub region. He said the tragic landslides in Kimono Village, Bulambuli, and floods in Kesenji Village, Sironko, are a painful reminder of the vulnerability of the Eastern region, one of the most marginalized in our country.

“My heart goes out to the families mourning loved ones and those whose lives have been upended by these disasters,” Bigirwa condoled.

“For too long, the region has suffered from neglect, with inadequate disaster preparedness and limited support for its people. It is imperative to prioritize relocating at-risk communities, improving early warning systems, and equipping rapid response teams to prevent further loss of life.
