CHOOSE WISELY: Vote leaders dedicated to genuine and tangible development, Speaker tells Budiope East voters

In a concerted effort to shape the national discourse around future leadership, top Ugandan officials, including the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, and President Yoweri Museveni, have urged citizens to cast their votes for leaders demonstrably committed to genuine and tangible development, rather than those relying on empty rhetoric. The synchronized message underscores a strategic push for alignment between local representation and the government’s development agenda.

Speaker Anita Annet Among recently embarked on a significant community engagement tour in Budiope East, Buyende district, specifically visiting several villages in Bugaya Subcounty. Her visit on Wednesday was aimed at fostering dialogue with residents about existing government development initiatives and encouraging active participation in their implementation.

During her address, Speaker Among delivered a clear and compelling message: “I urged the people to vote peacefully and wisely by electing Members of Parliament and local leaders dedicated to genuine service and tangible development, rather than those who rely on baseless propaganda.” This call to discern effective leadership from mere rhetoric highlights the critical role voters play in ensuring their communities benefit from national programs.

Crucially, the Speaker’s remarks seemed to re-echo sentiments previously expressed by President Yoweri Museveni. The President, during an earlier engagement in Wakiso district, had strongly advised residents to elect leaders from the National Resistance Movement (NRM). According to President Museveni, NRM leaders are inherently aligned with and actively supportive of the government’s development agendas, making them more effective conduits for progress.

Addressing a public rally in Nabweru, Nansana Municipality, as part of his ongoing Presidential assessment tour on wealth creation and the transformative Parish Development Model (PDM) in Wakiso District, President Museveni emphasized the direct link between a leader’s alignment and the delivery of services.

“In the coming general election, please elect Members of Parliament who demand what belongs to you. I’m in government, but I’m far from you. You need an MP who follows up on the money we send to help you,” the President stressed. His statement underscored the necessity of vigilant and accountable representatives who can bridge the gap between national policy and grassroots implementation, particularly concerning critical financial disbursements meant for local development.

The unified message from two of Uganda’s most prominent leaders signals a strategic emphasis on ensuring that future electoral choices directly contribute to the nation’s development trajectory. By urging voters to prioritize leaders dedicated to “genuine service and tangible development” and those who “align with and actively support government development agendas,” both the Speaker and the President are framing the upcoming elections as a critical juncture for accelerating progress and ensuring accountability in resource utilization.

For the citizens of Budiope East, Wakiso, and indeed all of Uganda, the message is clear: the ballot box is a tool for development. The call is for a discerning electorate to choose representatives not on the basis of fleeting promises, but on their proven capacity and commitment to translate national aspirations into tangible benefits for their communities. The success of initiatives like the Parish Development Model, which aims to uplift households from poverty, hinges significantly on the quality and dedication of the leaders elected at all levels of government.
