The Uganda U17 national team, also known as the Uganda Cubs, has kicked off training at FUFA technical center Njeru in preparation for the upcoming AFCON 2025 U17 qualifiers – CECAFA Region.
The qualifiers are scheduled to take place from December 14th to December 28th this year in Uganda. The associations’ 9 members will send teams for the qualifier tournament.
According to Team Manager Ibrahim Mutyaba, the boys are in good form and are looking forward to qualifying for the third time in a row.
The Cubs last qualified for the AFCON in 2019 and were set to participate in the 2021 tournament in Morocco, but it was unfortunately canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Head Coach Brian Senyondo revealed that the team has been focusing on fitness during the initial days of training.
He expressed his satisfaction with the boys’ progress, stating that they are not far from achieving the desired fitness levels.
However, Senyondo noted that only 27 of the 33 summoned players have reported to camp, with the remaining players set to join soon after completing their educational commitments, including A-level exams.
As the Uganda Cubs embark on this exciting journey, they will be looking to build on their past successes and make a strong case for qualification to the AFCON 2025 U17 finals.
