FARMER’S FEDERATION: Preparations for 32nd national agricultural show for the year 2026 at the Jinja show grounds near completion

Preparations for the 32nd National Agricultural Show at the Jinja Show Grounds are in their final stages, organizers have announced, setting the stage for one of Uganda’s largest agricultural exhibitions.

The annual show, organized by the Uganda National Farmers Federation (UNFFE) in partnership with government agencies and private sector stakeholders, will officially open on June 26, 2026, and run for 10 days until July 5, 2026.

This year’s event will be held under the theme: “Agrileap to Higher Middle Income Through Farm Innovations and Agro-Industrialization”, reflecting Uganda’s broader agenda of transforming agriculture into a driver of economic growth and household incomes.

Visitors will be required to pay an entrance fee of Shs5,000.

Speaking during a media briefing at the Jinja Show Grounds, Daudi Ssentengo, the Head of Training at UNFFE, said preparations were progressing smoothly and that exhibitors from across the country were already setting up.

“There is a very wide diversity of exhibitions at this year’s show, and all preparations are being well coordinated to ensure a successful event,” Ssentengo said.

He noted that the exhibition will provide farmers, agribusiness operators, researchers, students and investors with an opportunity to learn about modern farming technologies, value addition, mechanization, climate-smart agriculture and market opportunities.

Focus on Innovation and Poverty Reduction

Jinja Deputy Show Manager, Babirye Annet, said the main objective of this year’s exhibition is to inspire both farmers and young people to embrace agriculture as a viable business enterprise.

She explained that the show will showcase innovative farming practices and technologies aimed at improving productivity and reducing poverty among farming communities.

“Our goal is to motivate farmers and students to engage more actively in agriculture and embrace innovation as a tool for fighting poverty and improving livelihoods,” Babirye said.

The event is expected to attract thousands of visitors, including farmers, policymakers, development partners, researchers, financial institutions and agribusiness companies.

OWC Calls for Adoption of New Technologies

The Deputy Chief Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation (OWC), Brig. Gen. Godfrey Muwanguzi, encouraged farmers to take advantage of the exhibition to acquire new knowledge and access improved agricultural inputs.

He urged participants to learn from experts and exhibitors who will be showcasing improved seed varieties, modern farming equipment and innovative production methods.

“The show presents a valuable opportunity for farmers to acquire new ideas, technologies and quality seed varieties that can improve agricultural productivity and household incomes,” Brig. Gen. Muwanguzi said.

Partners Rally Support

Edward Katende, the Executive Director of Uganda Development Forum, one of the event’s partners, called upon farmers across the country to attend the exhibition and benefit from the knowledge-sharing opportunities available.

He emphasized the importance of continuous learning and skills development in enhancing agricultural productivity and competitiveness.

Agricultural Education Show to FollowFollowing the conclusion of the National Agricultural Show on July 5, the 5th National Agricultural Education Show will commence on July 6 and run until July 11, 2026.

The education-focused exhibition will be held under the theme: “Youth-Driven Innovation: Shaping the Future of the Agricultural Industry.”

The event is expected to place special emphasis on youth participation in agriculture, highlighting innovative ideas and technologies that can transform the sector and create employment opportunities for young people.

Organizers believe that the two back-to-back exhibitions will provide an important platform for knowledge exchange, technology transfer and networking, while supporting Uganda’s efforts to modernize agriculture and achieve sustainable economic transformation.
