President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is among 20 Ugandans and other distinguished personalities set to receive national honours during Uganda’s 64th Independence Day celebrations on October 9, 2026.
The medals will be presented at State House Entebbe as part of celebrations marking 64 years since Uganda attained independence.
According to Hajjat Zamina Malole, Chancellor of the Presidential Awards Committee in the Office of the President, President Museveni will receive the Order of the Commander-in-Chief (Uganda Prisons Service Medal).
The award recognises his leadership and contribution to peace and security in Uganda and beyond.
The Presidential Awards Committee said the medal is awarded to heads of State and heads of government in recognition of visionary leadership and their contribution to championing peace and security in Uganda, the East African region and Africa.
Museveni has been Uganda’s President since 1986 and is the longest-serving head of state in the country’s post-independence history.
The award is made pursuant to Section 3(2), Second Schedule, Part I of the National Honours and Awards Act, 2001, as amended.
The annual national honours are among the activities accompanying Uganda’s Independence Day celebrations, during which the country recognises individuals for distinguished service, leadership and contributions to national development.
