The National Celebrations of World Town Planning Day will be held in Namutumba District at the Namutumba District Headquarters, Kaiti, on Friday, 6th November 2026.
Mudondo Stella, an official from the Society of Professional Physical Planners in Uganda, disclosed this while addressing the media at the District Headquarters after a preparatory meeting. She stated that this year’s theme is “Great communities are built on planning.”
Stella explained that Namutumba was chosen to ensure that the message of planning reaches the local communities. She added that planners from across the country will attend and conduct lessons for residents on town planning.
She further revealed that the Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Judith Nabakooba, is expected to grace the occasion as Guest of Honour, accompanied by Hon. Princess Persis Namuganza, the State Minister for Housing.
She also stated that this is the third time Uganda is celebrating this day. It was first celebrated in 2024 in Masaka City, in 2025 it was celebrated in Kampala, and this year, 2026, it will be celebrated in Namutumba District.
The preparatory meeting was attended by the DISO, Planners from Town Councils, the office of the DPC, the RDC and his Assistant, Musana Richard, Nantambi Dorothy who represented Hon. Princess Persis Namuganza, and other stakeholders.
Aggrey Frederick Bangu, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Namutumba, said the day will help create awareness about town planning, noting that most cases reported in his office are a result of insufficient knowledge of planning by the locals.
Kiire Noah, the Namutumba District Information Officer and host of the celebrations, said the district expects a lot from the day. He urged residents to attend, acquire more information about town planning, and join in the celebrations.
