The Woman Member of Parliament (WMP) for Buyende District, Sarah Namulondo, recently declared her candidature for the position of Publicity Secretary of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Parliamentary Caucus in the 12th Parliament.
Namulondo announced her intention during a press conference held in Kampala, where she outlined her vision for strengthening communication, unity and mobilization within the ruling party’s parliamentary caucus.
Addressing journalists, the legislator said her candidature is driven by the need to enhance coordination among caucus members and improve communication between the party leadership, Members of Parliament and the public.
She emphasized the importance of togetherness and mutual respect among party members, noting that a united caucus would be better positioned to advance the NRM’s legislative agenda and support government programs.
“We need to strengthen the spirit of togetherness within the caucus and ensure that all members feel valued and respected,” Namulondo said.
A key pillar of her agenda is improving the flow of information within the caucus. She argued that timely communication is essential in addressing misinformation and speculation, particularly on issues of national importance.
According to Namulondo, effective communication would help members stay informed about party positions and policy decisions while enabling the caucus to present a coherent message to the public.
She also pledged to prioritize mass mobilization efforts aimed at strengthening support for the NRM across the country.
The Buyende Woman MP said the caucus publicity office should play a more active role in communicating government achievements and engaging citizens on development programs being implemented under the NRM administration.
Namulondo further highlighted the need to increase the participation of young people and women in party activities, describing the two groups as critical constituencies for the future growth and sustainability of the party.
She said creating opportunities for youth and women to contribute to party structures and activities would strengthen grassroots mobilization and foster a new generation of leaders.
Political observers note that the position of Caucus Publicity Secretary is a strategic role within the NRM Parliamentary Caucus, responsible for coordinating communication, shaping public messaging and promoting the caucus’ activities and positions.
Namulondo’s declaration adds to the growing competition for leadership positions within the NRM caucus ahead of the commencement of the 12th Parliament.
The elections are expected to determine the team that will help coordinate caucus affairs and support the implementation of the ruling party’s legislative and policy priorities in the next parliamentary term.
